LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Jim Runestad, R-White Lake, issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Wednesday “Road Ahead Address” at the Detroit Auto Show:
“Our governor has a well-established history of saying one thing and doing another, and it’s hard to believe her eyes are on the road ahead when she keeps driving the people of Michigan around in circles.
“For six years, she’s promised to repair the roads that still aren’t fixed, and Michigan drivers are left to travel on crumbling infrastructure that ranks among the worst in the nation.
“She talked about the need to compete against our nation’s adversaries in China, but she has given away millions upon millions of taxpayer dollars to multinational companies for empty job promises and battery plant schemes backed by the Chinese Community Party.
“She spoke about the trade of auto parts across our borders, yet conveniently continues to ignore the flood of deadly fentanyl, unimaginable horrors of human trafficking, and unknown numbers of violent criminals that endanger our local communities because of Biden’s open borders.
“From fourth grade reading levels to violent crime statistics to sluggish population growth and employment figures, this governor has driven Michigan to the bottom 10 of nearly every meaningful national metric.
“Unfortunately for the struggling taxpayers across our state, we have a governor that says all the right things but very often does another — and that speaks volumes. It’s almost as if she cares more about her road out of Michigan than helping to improve the lives of those who live and work here.”
