Legislature approves Victory’s road commission bills

LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Legislature has given final approval to legislation sponsored by Sen. Roger Victory that would allow county boards of commissioners to continue to consolidate their road commissions.

A provision under the current law had set a sunset of Jan. 1, 2020 for counties to consolidate. Senate Bills 322 and 323 would remove this sunset provision in the law.

“Consolidating road commissions under the umbrella of county boards of commissioners alleviates bureaucracy and provides greater accountability for taxpayers,” said Victory, R-Hudsonville. “Extending the ability of county governments to have the option to consolidate their services is a commonsense solution.”

SBs 322 and 323 have been sent to the governor to be signed into law.
