LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Ruth Johnson on Thursday said area families can help support the creation of a pavilion and public gardens to honor 100 years of education at the Perry Center in Grand Blanc through a new crowdfunding campaign.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Grand Blanc Community Schools recently announced the campaign, which is being offered through the Michigan-based crowdfunding platform Patronicity.
“The proposed centennial project and its gardens would put the historic structure to positive use as a community gathering place and an outdoor classroom,” said Johnson, R-Holly. “I applaud the efforts of the community and state leaders who partnered on the project, and I want to remind local residents that the deadline to contribute to this amazing learning experience is the end of September.”
If the campaign reaches its crowdfunding goal of $26,000 by Sept. 30, the project will win a matching grant with funds made possible by MEDC’s Public Spaces Community Places program. Residents can visit www.patronicity.com/perry for project details and to donate.
The Perry Center in downtown Grand Blanc was founded in 1922 as the first consolidated school in the state of Michigan. Over the years, it has experienced vast change, progress and innovation. The campaign will support the future of the Perry Center and create a community space in downtown Grand Blanc.
The Public Spaces Community Places program is a collaborative effort of the MEDC, the Michigan Municipal League and Patronicity, in which local residents can use crowdfunding to be part of the development of strategic projects in their communities and be backed with a matching grant from the MEDC.
