Theis appointed to Sexual Assault Evidence Kit Tracking and Reporting Commission

LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Lana Theis was recently appointed to the Sexual Assault Evidence Kit Tracking and Reporting Commission, the senator announced Thursday.

“I am honored to have been chosen to serve on this very important commission, and to join efforts to ensure that sexual assault survivors get the justice they deserve,” said Theis, R-Brighton.

The commission, which is housed within the state Department of Health and Human Services, was created Jan. 1, 2015 to develop plans and guidelines for both a uniform statewide system to track the submission and status of sexual assault evidence kits and a uniform system to audit untested kits that were collected on or before March 1, 2015, and to audit the ongoing submission of kits.

Theis was appointed to the commission by Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey in accordance with the law.
