LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Michael Webber on Friday applauded the announcement that three businesses in the city of Troy have been awarded Going PRO Talent Fund grants to help train local workers.
“The Going PRO program has made positive investments to support local communities by helping businesses train local workers for high-skilled and good-paying jobs to support themselves and their families,” said Webber, R-Rochester Hills. “I am proud to continue supporting this important effort to invest in our state’s future by investing in our local workforces.”
The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity awards employers with Going PRO Talent Fund grants through Michigan Works! Agencies (MWAs). Participating employers play an integral role in defining their key training needs, then work with their local MWAs and other partners to develop strategic training plans.
More than $1 million in Going PRO Talent Fund Cycle 2 Awards were distributed through Oakland County Michigan Works! In the city of Troy, Flex-N-Gate was awarded $30,315, HMS Mfg. Co. received $20,139, and Master Machining, Inc. was granted $6,000 to help train workers.
Since the program’s launch in 2014, more than 6,000 Michigan businesses have received Going PRO Talent Fund awards to train 175,000 new and existing workers. Since the program’s inception, worker wages have increased by an average of 9% following training completion.
