Runestad to speak at Asian support rally

Senator Jim Runestad

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Jim Runestad announced Thursday he will be speaking at the “Love and Unity Rally” to stop Asian discrimination being held in Lansing this Saturday, April 3, from 2 to 4 p.m.

“We are all Americans — regardless of our ancestry,” said Runestad, R-White Lake. “Asian Americans deserve to be treated just like any other group of Americans. It is important to show support for those in our community and to come together to celebrate all that binds us together.”

The Love and Unity Rally is scheduled to take place on the east lawn of the Michigan Capitol, 100 N. Capitol Ave., Lansing. Other elected officials slated to speak include Sen. Michael MacDonald, R-Macomb Township.

The event is being hosted by the Michigan Conservative Chinese Americans group, whose goal is to bridge the divides in our country in light of recent violence perpetrated against those in the Asian community.

“Asian discrimination even exceeds acts of violence,” Runestad said. “It is being pushed into our higher education and hiring processes. As a country, we can do better. Together we can create stronger, more united communities and make a real difference for families in our own neighborhoods.”
