LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Jim Runestad has demanded Attorney General Dana Nessel launch a criminal investigation into the actions of Michigan State Police Deputy Director Lt. Col. Aimee Brimacombe.
In a June 22 letter to Nessel, Runestad condemned Brimacombe’s misuse of her state vehicle for personal travel and the 2021 internal MSP investigation that “slapped her wrist” as punishment by essentially revoking five vacation days for the offense. He also contrasted this reaction to the attorney general’s prosecution of a former UIA employee who was found guilty of embezzlement for misusing state vehicles for personal use.
“This type of double standard for political favorites is disgusting and unacceptable,” said Runestad, R-White Lake. “With the current cries for accountability of the state police leadership, a responsible administration should be taking every step possible to crack down on these types of internal criminal offenses.”
The letter also highlighted previous requests for criminal investigations into Brimacombe’s conduct that were made by retired MSP Capt. Michael Caldwell.
