Under Lansing Democrats, Michigan is headed in the wrong direction. Taxes and prices are way up, and employment and student test scores are way down. State government’s budget keeps getting bigger as family budgets keep shrinking. Democrats still haven’t fixed the local roads we drive to work and school, but they’ve sent millions of your tax dollars to foreign corporations.
Senate Republicans have a different vision for Michigan. This is our roadmap to getting our economy and our students back on track, protecting our neighborhoods, and fixing our roads without raising your taxes.
AN ECONOMY THAT WORKS FOR EVERYONE
- Help Michiganders struggling with rising costs by rolling back Democrat’s income tax hike.
- Make Michigan a more welcoming place for families, blue-collar careers, and high tech and medical jobs.
- Create a compact of Great Lakes states to unilaterally “disarm” corporate welfare funds so corporations can’t pit one state against another for more tax dollars.
- Attract the best and brightest by cutting the government red tape that makes it hard for people to transfer their professional licenses to Michigan.
- Invest in apprenticeship scholarships to expand our blue-collar workforce.
- Help new and growing businesses by ensuring state regulations aren’t stricter than those imposed by the federal government and speeding up the state’s permitting process.
- Restore the rights of workers to decide whether they want to join a union.
Set the bar high for students and teachers
- Restore the key provisions of the Read by Third Grade law.
- Require student progress to be part of every teacher’s evaluation process.
- Restore the A-F grading scale so parents understand how their child’s school is performing.
- Provide bonuses to highly effective teachers who take positions in schools where they can have the biggest impact.
- Create scholarships to help families afford additional educational assistance like tutoring, summer school, or after-school reading programs.
- Refocus class time on the basics to turn around Michigan’s woeful reading and math outcomes.
Fix our broken roads without raising taxes
- Ensure every penny paid in taxes at the pumps goes to fixing the roads.
- Prioritize fixing the local roads and bridges Michiganders drive to work and school.
- Invest precious tax dollars in road repairs instead of corporate welfare.
STRONGER BORDERS AND SAFER COMMUNITIES
- Crack down on the fentanyl killing Michiganders in every city, village, and township of our state.
- End so-called “sanctuary cities,” and require Michigan communities to enforce immigration laws.
- Ensure only Michigan citizens are able to vote or obtain driver’s licenses.
- Support law enforcement so that they can do their jobs effectively and keep our families safe.
