LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Mark Huizenga was sworn in as senator for the 28th District on Tuesday during a special ceremony at the state Capitol. Senate President Pro Tempore Aric Nesbitt administered the oath of office.

Huizenga, R-Walker, was joined on the Senate floor for the ceremony by his wife Kris, daughters Olivia Huizenga and Elaina Huizenga-Chase, and son-in-law Ben Chase. Huizenga’s parents Jerry and Joyce Huizenga and father-in-law Tom Nawrocki were also present for the ceremony. Huizenga’s son Lance Cpl. Blake Huizenga was unable to attend as he is currently serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

“I am truly honored to carry the great responsibility of representing the people of the 28th District in the Senate and give them a voice about the future of our great state,” Huizenga said. “We are facing great challenges as a society today. To the people of West Michigan, I pledge to walk with you, step for step, day by day, as we face the great test of moving Michigan forward into a phase of growth, prosperity and unity. From the bottom of my heart and from the forefront of my soul, I pledge to represent you to the absolute best of my ability.”

After being sworn in, Huizenga signed his oath of office.
