Nesbitt to Whitmer: ‘It’s time to lead Democrats to the bargaining table’

LANSING, Mich. Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt, R-Porter Township, on Tuesday issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s speech on Michigan’s economy:

“If Gov. Whitmer were serious about economic development, Michigan wouldn’t rank among the states with the highest unemployment after six years of her leadership. Instead, Michigan’s economy is underwater because of Lansing Democrats’ failed policies, including the repeal of Right to Work, prevailing wage mandates, an unaffordable Michigan Green New Deal and billions in corporate handouts for the empty promise of jobs that never come.

“Now, Democrats want so badly to raise the tax burden on Michigan families and businesses that they are ready to shut down state government if they don’t get their way.

“I’m glad the governor is finally back from another taxpayer-funded trip overseas because the clock is ticking. It’s time to lead Democrats to the bargaining table to pass a balanced budget that fixes Michigan’s crumbling roads and bridges, puts kids first by focusing on reading and math, and respects taxpayers enough to not reach deeper into their pockets. Republicans have put forward real plans to do this. Let’s get to work on a budget that actually helps Michigan families.”
