LANSING, Mich. — Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt, R-Porter Township, on Tuesday released the following statement in response to reports that federal agents have arrested two Chinese nationals — a University of Michigan student and her boyfriend — for attempting to smuggle a dangerous biological pathogen into the United States:
“If not for President Trump’s decisive leadership to restore order to our nation’s borders, Ann Arbor or another Michigan city may have become the next Wuhan or ground zero for agricultural terrorism.
“I’m grateful for the federal agents who worked to bring these individuals into custody and for the president’s efforts to crack down on the abused and exploited student visa system. We cannot afford to stand by and look the other way while our colleges and universities are infiltrated by those who seek to do us harm.”
