LANSING, Mich. — Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt, R-Porter Township, on Wednesday issued the following statement regarding anticipated income tax cuts following the annual January Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference report that the state’s 2022 revenue forecast is expected to trigger Public Act 180 of 2015, permanently reducing the individual income tax rate:
“Legislative Republicans have worked hard over the past year to pass tax relief for all Michiganders. Unfortunately, those bills were vetoed by the governor and families across our state continue to struggle against higher food and energy costs brought on by historic inflation.
“Thankfully, there is now some good news for the people of our state. Responsible budget management by Republican leadership will soon result in income tax relief for all hardworking Michiganders and no veto pen can stop it.
“While this income tax rollback is welcome news, more can and should be done to help all of Michigan’s families, seniors and other individuals who are trying to make ends meet while their state government brings in historic budget surpluses. We cannot be in the business of picking winners and losers when all Michiganders need relief; I remain open to working with my colleagues across the aisle on any meaningful tax relief that will help every person in this great state.”
