Nesbitt blasts partisan legislation to kill fair competition, cost taxpayers more

LANSING, Mich. — Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt, R-Porter Township, issued the following statement Tuesday after partisan legislation to reinstate prevailing wage requirements in Michigan was sent to the governor to be signed:

“Studies have shown time and time again that prevailing wage laws cost taxpayers millions more for roads, bridges and schools each year. This heavy-handed government favoritism will benefit few and harm our shared state economy. The inevitable outcome of these short-sighted policies to kill fair competition in the marketplace, is that fewer roads and bridges get fixed and higher taxes will need to be imposed to fix them. While Democrats and their big union donors will celebrate this as a win, the reality is a big loss for Michigan’s taxpayers.”
