***Media Advisory*** Sen. Runestad will hold press conference to discuss need for increased transparency into Child Protective Services

LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Jim Runestad will host a press conference at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2, in room 403 of the state Capitol to discuss the need for increased transparency  into the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ Child Protective Services following the death of 5-year-old Ethan Belcher of Lincoln Park and his parents’ arrest.

What:
Runestad introduced legislation to provide sitting legislators and news outlets with access to CPS case information, under certain circumstances.

Brief:
Ethan Belcher, age 5, was found dead in his home on Jan. 22. Family members say they had been in contact with CPS over the course of several years because of abuse concerns.
