LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Lana Theis, R-Brighton, issued the following statement on Wednesday, after state officials reported the first COVID-19-related death in Livingston County:
“Today we learned of the first COVID-19-related death in Livingston County. Unfortunately, it was a day that we suspected would be coming all too soon. I grieve over the loss of our fellow community member and I pray for the Lord’s comfort over the victim’s family and friends during this unthinkable time.
“This person’s loss, along with every life lost to COVID-19, underscores the importance of taking this disease seriously. I cannot stress enough how important it is that all of us follow the recommendations of the CDC and medical professionals to stay home and strictly observe social distancing guidelines.
“However difficult and limiting this time in our lives may be, adhering to these recommendations is making a difference. The better we can all be at working together to slow the spread of this virus, the sooner we can get back to normal.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) urges everyone to practice social distancing by putting six feet or more between yourself and others, and to practice healthy habits to help slow the spread of COVID-19, including:
- Washing your hands for at least 20 seconds.
- Cleaning and disinfecting frequently used surfaces.
- Avoiding touching your face.
