LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Jonathan Lindsey on Friday applauded the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling upholding a Tennessee law protecting youth from dangerous medical abuses, such as conversion surgeries and damaging sex hormone treatments.
In 2023, the Tennessee Legislature passed a measure to protect children from abusive gender mutilation tactics. However, the law was challenged, eventually reaching the U.S. Supreme Court. This week, the court ruled in United States v. Skrmetti that the state of Tennessee’s ban on certain dangerous medical practices on youth is indeed legal.
“This landmark decision makes it clear that states have the authority to step in and protect our kids in this critical area,” said Lindsey, R-Coldwater. “Let me be clear: Transgender surgeries and chemical sterilization are in no way affirming.
“The court took bold and appropriate action that will help protect children across this country. In Michigan, we should follow Tennessee’s footsteps and pass legislation that will protect children from left-wing gender insanity. Gender ideology preys on our most vulnerable population, our children, and I will never stop fighting for them.”
