Bumstead hosts 2018 asparagus queen

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Jon Bumstead, R-Newaygo, welcomed 2018 Asparagus Queen Kendra Larios-Mendez to the Capitol on Thursday.

Larios-Mendez promoted the asparagus industry of Oceana County and provided each senator with a gift of locally grown asparagus. Rab Orchards of Shelby donated the 50 pounds of asparagus for the occasion.

The National Asparagus Festival hosts an annual pageant in Shelby, where the only asparagus queen in the nation is crowned. The visit was one of Larios-Mendez’s final appearances during her reign as queen.
