LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Joseph Bellino applauded an announcement that the city of Monroe will be able to make important improvements to St. Mary’s Park thanks to a recently approved state grant.
“This funding is about making a long-term investment in Monroe to provide more outdoor recreation opportunities for local children and improve the quality of life for everyone in the region,” said Bellino, R-Monroe. “By helping our communities thrive, we are helping them attract new business investment, good jobs and in-demand talent.”
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation has awarded the city of Monroe a $978,425 Revitalization and Placemaking (RAP) grant for improvements at St. Mary’s Park.
Monroe was one of 27 statewide applications awarded RAP grants this week. The grants will support about 64 projects in 48 communities, leveraging over $120 million in total investment in public spaces.
The RAP program provides access to gap financing for place-based infrastructure development, real estate rehabilitation and development, and public space improvements. Eligible applicants are individuals or entities working to rehabilitate vacant, underutilized, blighted, and historic structures and the development of permanent place-based infrastructure associated with traditional downtowns, social-zones, outdoor dining, and placed-based public spaces.
