Wozniak applauds court ruling on no-fault retroactivity

LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Doug Wozniak, R-Shelby Township, issued the following statement Thursday, after the state Court of Appeals ruled the 2019 auto no-fault reforms cannot be applied retroactively:

“I applaud the court’s ruling that Michigan’s auto no-fault reforms should not be applied retroactively. Though reforms were long-overdue, the legislative fix was imperfect and there were unintentional repercussions to how it was applied to our complicated insurance code.

“I strongly believe that the Michigan Court of Appeals has ruled correctly in this matter and feel that eliminating the retroactive application of the reforms is ethically, contractually and constitutionally the right thing to do.”
