LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Senate on Thursday adopted a resolution sponsored by Sen. Curt VanderWall to observe May 2022 as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.
“As an avid motorcyclist, I am keenly aware of the importance of motorcycle safety and encourage all motorists to become more aware that they share Michigan’s back roads and highways with motorcyclists,” said VanderWall, R-Ludington. “Put down your phones and give extra caution at intersections to be aware of what and who is around you. Sadly, we lost more than 120 motorcyclists on Michigan roads last year and many of those accidents could have been avoided. It’s my hope that all motorists can enjoy Michigan’s beautiful highways and back roads in the summer sunshine that is ahead of us and have a safe motorcycle season.”
Senate Resolution 134 says, “the disproportionate number of motorcycle fatalities make it vitally important to encourage motorcyclists to understand and practice the highest degree of safety. It is also important to remind other drivers that highway safety is beneficial to all parties traveling on public roadways.”
