Shirkey sworn in for second term as senator of 16th District
LANSING, Mich.— Sen. Majority Leader Mike Shirkey was sworn in for his second term as senator of the 16th District on Wednesday during a ceremony at the state Capitol. Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Stephen Markman administered the oath of office.
Shirkey was joined in the Senate chamber for the occasion by his wife Sue; their children David, Daniel, and Marilyn; and several grandchildren.
“It is an honor to serve the people of Branch, Hillsdale and Jackson counties,” said Shirkey, R-Clarklake. “Our goal in the Senate is to do all we can to help improve the lives of Michiganders. It’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work.”
Last November, Shirkey’s Senate colleagues elected him Senate majority leader. He will also serve as chairman of the Government Operations Committee.
The senator also announced that his new Lansing office is open and ready to meet constituent needs. His office is now located in S-106 inside the state Capitol building.
