Senate panel takes testimony on senior caregivers
LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Senate Families, Seniors and Veterans Committee took testimony on Wednesday on the issue of Michigan’s senior caregivers, said Chairman Sen. John Bizon, M.D.
The presentation was given by Area Agency on Aging Legislative Advocacy Chair Harold Mast and Michigan State University Professor Dr. Clare Luz.
“Caring for the elderly is a vitally important issue that is only going to increase in importance as Michigan’s population ages,” said Bizon, R-Battle Creek. “I am delighted we got to hear from Mr. Mast and Dr. Luz today, and I am eager to work on ways to strengthen the role of senior caregivers.”
Luz just finished a study of the senior caregiver issue funded by a grant from the Michigan Endowment Fund.
“This topic is one of the main issues identified by the Area Agency on Aging Association of Michigan and the Michigan Commission on Aging as needing much attention in the next decade,” Bizon said. “The presentation by Dr. Luz was compelling.”
Wednesday’s presentation coincided with Older Michiganians Day in Michigan.
