Sen. Schmidt reacts to State of the State address
LANSING, Mich. – State Sen. Wayne Schmidt, R-Traverse City, issued the following statement after Gov. Rick Snyder delivered his 2015 State of the State address:
“Tonight, the governor highlighted the many accomplishments our state has achieved over the past four years, as well as his priorities for this year. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Legislature and the governor’s administration to continue this positive momentum.
“I particularly appreciate the priority the governor has placed on the issues of energy and education. As we work to forge a new energy future, we must improve access to quality, affordable and reliable sources of energy that are also environmentally conscious. Residents in Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula do not need to be reminded of how important it is to have a reliable energy supply and delivery mechanism, and I am eager to work on finding a long-term solution to these issues.
“Likewise, having an education system that serves and prepares our children for a 21st century economy is a must. It starts with a quality early childhood education, and I appreciate the governor’s continued focus. Focusing on the skilled trades is also an important initiative as we work to improve our economy. Another vitally important part of education is funding, and I am committed to finding a funding equity solution.
“Our state has come a long way in recent years, but there is much work left to do. I am excited for the challenge and look forward to working together with my constituents, colleagues in the Legislature and the governor’s administration to help Michigan reach its full potential.”
