LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Judy Emmons and her fellow female senators came together at the Capitol on Wednesday to promote the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” initiative.
“Go Red for Women is a national movement dedicated to increasing awareness that heart disease is not just a men’s issue — cardiovascular diseases kill one in three women in the United States,” said Emmons, R-Sheridan. “Heart disease is the leading cause of death of American women, and 90 percent of U.S. women have one or more risk factors. We must increase awareness of heart disease among women and encourage them to take preventative action to reduce their risk and improve their health.”
Emmons co-sponsored Senate Resolution 9, which proclaims February as American Heart Month in Michigan and Feb. 3 as Wear Red Day.
