LANSING — State Sen. Patrick Colbeck, R-Canton, was recently honored by parent members of the Michigan Chapter of PublicSchoolOptions.org with a “Golden Apple Award” for his work on education reform.
Colbeck earned the accolade for his “legislative courage in fighting to provide Michigan students with the opportunity for a great education.”
“Education reform is always something politicians talk about at election time,” said Brian Kevelin, a member of the board for the Michigan chapter from Warren. “When it comes to Senator Colbeck, his commitment to education reform and supporting parents wasn’t talk. He backed up his words with actions, votes and leadership; and, as parents, we are grateful.”
Colbeck said of the recognition: “I am truly honored to receive the Golden Apple Award. The education reforms that we have passed in Michigan have already resulted in more focus on educational excellence than preservation of the status quo. As more educational options open up for our kids, the resulting competition is driving higher quality education for ALL students – those who pursue the new choices as well as those who don’t. I am proud to be a voice for parents and their kids in the state Senate. ”
According to its website, the Michigan Chapter of PublicSchoolOptions.org an alliance of parents that supports and defends parents’ rights to access the best public school options for their children.
