Schmidt congratulates Cheboygan Main Street LLC on redevelopment grant
LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Wayne Schmidt on Friday congratulated Cheboygan Main Street LLC for receiving a grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), which will be used to develop an unused building in downtown Cheboygan into a new mixed-use development.
“This is big news for the city of Cheboygan,” said Schmidt, R-Traverse City. “This grant will help bring new life to the community and the new developments are sure to be welcomed by area residents.”
Cheboygan Main Street LLC plans to redevelop a functionally obsolete building in the heart of downtown Cheboygan into approximately 5,880 square feet of a new mixed-use development.
The project will redevelop the commercial space into three new businesses, including the first-ever Stormy Kromer retail store; a theater and lounge; and a chocolate shop. The second story will be renovated into three market-rate residential apartments.
“I want to congratulate Cheboygan Main Street LLC on this great news for their company,” Schmidt said. “I applaud their efforts in making their community better and wish them the best of luck in their new endeavor.”
The city of Cheboygan routinely works with the MEDC’s Redevelopment Ready Communities program and has recently been chosen as a select level Michigan Main Street Community. This certification shows investors and developers that they have taken steps toward improving their business and development climate and welcome new talent and residents to the area.
