LANSING, Mich. — Sen. John Proos recently wrapped up a celebration of “March is Reading Month” by reading to Norton Elementary School students in Three Rivers on March 30.
During the month, Proos read to students at local elementary schools in Berrien, Cass and St. Joseph counties as part of an effort to help promote the importance of reading.
“It is always a great time to share a love of reading to hundreds of enthusiastic young people throughout Southwest Michigan,” said Proos, R-St. Joseph. “Reading lays the foundation to a rewarding future. Learning to read at a young age has been shown to increase a student’s ability to comprehend information and be successful in both school and his or her career.
“A simple way parents can help their children succeed through reading is by picking up a book and reading to them each night.”
Proos kicked off his school visits in early March by reading to first-graders in Benton Harbor and to third-graders in Watervliet and Centreville.
