LANSING — Looking for a job or considering a career change? Sen. John Proos reminded Southwest Michigan residents that the Pure Michigan Talent Connect website offers a variety of tools to help connect jobs seekers with employers.
“The MI Talent website can be a giant toolbox for assistance in finding a new job or preparing for a new career,” said Proos, R-St. Joseph. “I strongly encourage Southwest Michigan workers who are unemployed or underemployed to take advantage of everything this invaluable site has to offer. One key tool is a calendar of career fairs for job seekers, which includes many events in west Michigan this month.”
Residents may visit the Pure Michigan Talent Connect website at www.MiTalent.org. In the Job Seeker section of the site, under “Career Connections,” is the Job and Career Fair Calendar.
Upcoming events listed on the page include: A TruGreen event March 5 in Holland; a Speedway recruiting event in Mattawan on March 6; a manufacturing hiring event March 6-8 in Grand Rapids; and a career fair in Kalamazoo on March 20.
“The MI Talent site is being innovative in how job seekers can connect with job providers,” Proos said. “Virtual career fairs are a new way to enable job hunters to use an online forum to reach dozens of employers – allowing them to interview with many more employers. It also helps hiring companies meet a much larger group of prospective workers.”
Proos noted that upcoming virtual career fair dates are scheduled for the last Wednesday of the month for the following dates: March 27, April 24, June 26, Aug. 28 and Sept. 25.
The webpage offers three key sections for visitors trying to find a job, employers looking to hire and workers exploring new career and educational options. The Career Matchmaker and Career Investment Calculator are designed to help individuals identify the industries that are in need of their job skills and calculate the value of additional training for a new career.
“The job fairs and the Michigan Job Portal and Talent Bank can help workers find a job, but the site also can help match individuals with the industries that best utilize their skills,” Proos said. “I am working to create a Michigan where every resident who wants to work can find a good job. Helping to create jobs is only part of the solution; connecting jobs seekers with employers and giving workers the best chance to succeed in their new positions are also important.”
