Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, on Tuesday presented a special tribute to Harry Hutchinson of Tecumseh in recognition of being named an IBEW Hour Power Apprentice of the Year. Three out of the last five years a Michigan apprentice has won this prestigious award. Hutchinson was the 2015 award winner. In addition to excelling in his apprenticeship class and on the job site, Hutchinson brought a passion for community work and charitable giving to International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 252. He was the founder of the Union 4 Life charity, raising over $30,000 for breast cancer research at the University of Michigan Research Center.

Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, on Saturday presented Ardith Brandeberry with a Congressional Gold Medal, posthumously honoring her late husband's service with the Civil Air Patrol during World War II. Burnell Brandeberry served in a squadron based in Adrian, where he learned to fly and earned his wings before leaving to train as a B-29 tail gunner in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Upon discharge from the Army, Brandeberry studied education and became a teacher at schools in Illinois and Ohio. He also served as an elementary school principal in the Toledo area, where he retired. Brandeberry died in 2013 at the age of 86.

LANSING, Mich. - State Sen. Ken Horn, R-Frankenmuth, welcomed Shaheen Development President and CEO Dr. Sam Shaheen and Saginaw Future President JoAnn Crary to the Michigan Capitol before Gov. Rick Snyder's 2017 State of the State address. Shaheen and Crary, both from Saginaw, were Horn's guests for the annual address Tuesday evening. Shaheen and Crary have been heavily involved with Horn through the legislative process of getting developers the necessary tools to revitalize crumbling Brownfield properties. The two noted that Senate Bills 1061-1065 of 2016 had the potential to greatly benefit the Saginaw area, and that they look forward to Horn reintroducing the bills during the new session.

Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, and Dr. Stephen Bell (right) joined Lt. Gov. Brian Calley on Wednesday as Calley signed bipartisan legislation allowing school districts in the state to stock naloxone, an antidote used to treat an opioid overdose in an emergency situation. Bell is an osteopathic physician with a practice in Newport. He was a member of the Michigan Prescription Drug and Opioid Abuse Task Force, formed by Gov. Rick Snyder in 2015 to create a comprehensive statewide action plan to address prescription drug and opioid abuse. Bell is currently a member of the Michigan Prescription Drug and Opioid Abuse Commission, created in June 2016 by Snyder to help implement the task force's recommendations. Senate Bills 805 and 806 were sponsored by Zorn and Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich, D- Flint.

Senate Bill 188 simply includes transportation network drivers under the existing limousine act.
