LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Phil Pavlov, R-St. Clair Township, chairman of the Senate Education Committee, issued the following statement Thursday after the president signed the Every Student Succeeds Act.
“Today, the Every Student Succeeds Act was signed into law in Washington, D.C., replacing No Child Left Behind and marking a new era in education policy. For the first time in many years, states will have significantly more ability to set their own policies, without constant fear of federal intrusion and repercussions. It will be important to remain vigilant about the state agencies that will now hold much more power. I applaud Congresswoman Candice Miller’s leadership in protecting the Michigan tradition of local control of our schools.”
