LANSING, Mich. — A local section of I-94 will memorialize the life and service of Detective LaVern Brann after legislation authored by state Sen. Mike Nofs passed both the state House and Senate.

Nofs introduced Senate Bill 99 to honor the memory of local detective LaVern Brann, who served within the Battle Creek Police Department for 20 years. On May 9, 2005, Detective Brann tragically lost his life in the line of duty.

“There isn’t enough we can do to honor LaVern for his contributions and sacrifice for our community, but I hope this tribute will help keep his memory alive for all who visit Battle Creek,” said Sen. Nofs, R-Battle Creek. “LaVern’s name on I-94 will serve as a great reminder to all of us of the danger our brave officers face every shift.”

The ‘Detective LaVern S. Brann Memorial Highway’ will cover the Business Loop of I-94 between the eastern and western limits of Battle Creek.

The bill now heads to the governor’s desk for his signature.
