LANSING, Mich. — Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt, R-Porter Township, on Thursday welcomed U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran James “Doc” McCloughan to the state Capitol as his special guest for the Senate’s annual Memorial Day Service honoring Michigan’s fallen service members.

McCloughan was presented with the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Donald Trump on July 31, 2017, in recognition of his heroic actions rescuing fellow soldiers during several combat engagements from May 13-15, 1969, despite his own wounds and the risk to his life.
