LANSING, Mich. — Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt, R-Porter Township, on Friday issued the following statement after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer called a special election to fill the vacant 35th Senate District previously held by U.S. Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet, D-Bay City:

“The 270,000 people of Michigan’s 35th Senate District are struggling to make it in Michigan, and for over 400 days, they will be without a state senator to fight for them. This is a complete failure of leadership from the governor, who should be ashamed for abandoning these hardworking families.”
