Bizon applauds $2M infrastructure grant

Dr. John Bizon

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. John Bizon, M.D. announced on Tuesday that the Michigan Strategic Fund has awarded a $2 million Community Development Block Grant to the city of Albion for infrastructure improvements.

Bizon said the money from the CDBG Infrastructure Capacity Enhancement fund will go toward the Irwin Avenue Improvements Project, which will replace deteriorated sewer systems and expand the system to meet fire flow demands.

“This is great news for this community and the city of Albion,” said Bizon, R-Battle Creek. “The improvements project will make necessary safety upgrades and increase the quality of life for residents.”

Bizon said the grant includes a local match of $223,000.

The MSF, in cooperation with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, administers the economic and community development portions of the federal CDBG program, which uses funds received from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Ten other Michigan communities received more than $14 million in similar infrastructure grants. The communities will improve or replace water, sewer and wastewater systems, including water lines and related facilities; sanitary and storm sewer lines and related facilities; and wastewater treatment plants and related activities, with only road replacement activities related to these activities being eligible.

MSF also approved $330,000 to assist the communities with the compliance and administrative requirements of the awards.
