LANSING, Mich.—State Sen. Tonya Schuitmaker announced Wednesday that the Strand Theater in Paw Paw will be offering free viewings of the movie American Sniper for active duty military members and veterans.

“Members of our military have given up so much for us,” said Schuitmaker, R-Lawton. “I am always looking for ways to thank them for their service to our state and our country. This movie honors those servicemen and women who have paid the ultimate price in order to defend our country and our freedom.”

This opportunity is made possible thanks to a partnership between Schuitmaker, the Strand Theater and the Greater Kalamazoo Community Service Fund, a non-profit 501(c)4.

“American Sniper has been well-received by veterans and movie critics alike,” said Amy Sons of the Strand Theater. “This is a great opportunity to bring local veterans together.”

American Sniper tells the story of the late U.S. Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle during his tours in Iraq. The movie has set many box office records and is one of the most-watched films of the last two years.

“The film examines the difficult decisions our brave men and women in uniform have to make every day,” Schuitmaker said.

The film will begin playing Friday, Feb. 13 and will continue through Feb. 26. Active duty service members and veterans will be able to see the movie at no cost during the entire two-week run. More information and show times can be found on the Strand Theater’s website, http://www.pawpawstrand.com/.
