Richardville comments on Governor's infrastructure message
LANSING--Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville, R-Monroe, issued the following statement regarding Governor Snyder's special message to the legislature on reinventing Michigan's infrastructure:
"The Governor has presented a number of ideas that begin a much-needed discussion on how we can improve Michigan's infrastructure. Today's message goes well beyond what we traditionally think of when we think of infrastructure to include not only our roads and bridges, but our water, sewer and technology needs as well.
If there is one thing that government should do it is maintain and improve infrastructure in order to support the needs of our communities, businesses and citizens. Our roadways are the foundation for commerce in our state and no one can deny the need for greater investment in our transportation lifeline. I share in the Governor's belief that investing in infrastructure builds a stronger economy and improves the quality of life for all Michiganders.
The Governor touched upon a number of exciting goals, specifically calling for best practices to ensure tax dollars are spent wisely, broadening avenues for consolidation and local improvement projects, reforming funding formulas, harnessing federal dollars to improve critical structures like the Soo Locks, improving access to broadband technology and creating a comprehensive infrastructure model that reaches all across our great state and better reflects our needs in the 21st century.
My senate colleagues and I look forward to a continued dialogue with the Governor on ways to better develop our state infrastructure and we are committed to making fiscally responsible decisions that benefit citizens throughout Michigan."
