Sen. Jansen offers comments on budget solution

LANSING - A day after the administration and legislative Democrats walked away from an agreed-upon deal that solved the 2007 budget deficit, Senate Republicans passed their third solution to the budget shortfall and Sen. Mark Jansen, R-Gaines Township, issued the following statement:

"Today the Senate Republicans passed Senate Bills 436 and 437. We feel it is critical that Michigan must balance this year's budget before the books close September 30, 2007. This legislation has cuts that include addressing the estimated revenue shortfall of $172.9 million to be announced this Friday.

"We were able to limit the school aid per pupil cut to $36 rather than the governor's plan of $122. Today, we made tough cuts and tomorrow we need to be bold and finish the job to get Michigan back on track."
