Sen. Richardville announces fundraising event on May 1st at Breslin Center to benefit the Children's Trust Fund

LANSING - Sen. Randy Richardville and a bipartisan team of legislators from the Senate and House today announced a charitable event to help fund child abuse prevention efforts in Michigan.

On Tuesday, May 1, 2007, beginning at 5 p.m. the fifth-annual "Cherish the Children" Ultimate Fantasy Auction will be held at the Jack Breslin Student Events Center at Michigan State University. All proceeds from the auction benefit the Children's Trust Fund of Michigan that provides public education, training and technical assistance, and supports a network of community-based child abuse prevention programs and services across the state.

"Each year, the lives of thousands of Michigan children are forever impacted by abuse," said Richardville, R-Monroe. "Critically important work in the effort to stop child abuse is done every day by the Children's Trust Fund. By attending the auction on May 1st, Michigan residents can show their support for the fund's efforts in preventing child abuse."

The Ultimate Fantasy Auction includes silent and live auctions featuring bid items that range from tickets to an airing of American Idol in Los Angeles to a signed and framed jersey of famed Detroit Red Wing, Steve Yzerman. Other auction items include: a trip for two to a taping of the Oprah Winfrey show in Chicago; tickets to major sporting events, including Detroit Tigers, Lions and Pistons games; a five night stay in a European Castle; a NASCAR ticket package with pit passes for the race on Father's Day at Michigan International Speedway; and more.

Richardville is the co-chair of the Gift Acquisition Committee for the event.

The Children's Trust Fund is the only statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect in Michigan. Since 1982, the organization has raised more than $80 million and provided support to more than 8 million Michigan children and families.

Tickets to the Ultimate Fantasy Auction are $100 per person. Purchase tickets by calling the Children's Trust Fund at 1-800-CHILDREN, or buy your tickets online at www.michigan.gov/michiganestore.
