Sen. Jansen receives 'National Service' champion award
LANSING - Sen. Mark Jansen, R-Gaines Township, was presented with the "National Service" champion award at a ceremony Wednesday at the state Capitol.
"I am truly honored to be selected for such an important recognition," Jansen said. "Volunteering is one of the best ways to give back to our communities. Events like this one are important - residents across the state need to know the value of volunteering."
Jansen was chosen for the award by Serve Michigan for his outstanding leadership and advocacy. Serve Michigan is a partnership of the ConnectMichigan Alliance and the Michigan Nonprofit Association.
Prior to becoming a state senator, Jansen worked for Habitat for Humanity of Michigan.
The Michigan Volunteer Champion awards are presented annually at Serve Michigan's "Celebrating Volunteerism" event.
According to Connect Michigan Alliance President and CEO Kyle Caldwell, volunteers from across the state attend to highlight the impact of their efforts in Michigan's communities and to honor state elected officials who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in their support of volunteerism.
