Richardville opposes plan to close SOS office in Temperance
LANSING – Sen. Randy Richardville, R-Monroe, issued the following statement regarding the Michigan Department of State’s proposal to close the secretary of state’s office in Temperance:
“Consolidating the secretary of state’s office in Temperance with the Monroe branch will be a great disservice to thousands of area residents. It will result in longer lines and wait times at the surrounding secretary of state offices.
“Residents in Bedford Township would have to drive 15 to 30 miles one-way to either of the nearest offices under this plan. We have to remember the senior citizens and disabled – closure of this office could be a great burden for them.
“I remain in favor of reforming state government and making necessary changes to help Michigan’s troubled economy, but Bedford residents deserve a good return on their tax dollars too. Closing this branch office that provides great service for area residents is not the right answer.”
