Richardville comments on special election for 19th Senate District

LANSING – Sen. Randy Richardville, R-Monroe, issued the following statement in response to the governor’s call for a special general election in November to fill the vacant 19th Senate District seat:

“I am deeply disappointed that the governor has chosen to keep this Senate seat open until November when she could have filled it by calling for an election in May.

“Residents in much of Jackson County and all of Calhoun County have not had representation in the state Senate since Jan. 2.  They deserve to have a state senator in office as soon as possible to help with major issues like contacting the state’s unemployment agency or distribution of the federal economic stimulus money.

“Until this seat is filled, I encourage all residents of the 19th Senate District to continue contacting me about their concerns, as they have been since January.  I look forward to working with the new senator, once the election is over, in representing Jackson County residents.”
