Sen. Richardville invites residents to 14th Annual Memorial Day Service

LANSING — The Michigan Senate will hold its 14th Annual Memorial Day Service in the Senate chambers Thursday, May 22, said state Sen. Randy Richardville.

“Memorial Day is an important occasion,” said Richardville.  “It is a day to honor the memories of the many men and women of our armed forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.  The ceremony at the Capitol will allow us to honor Michigan soldiers who gave their lives in service.”

Lawmakers will honor soldiers from their districts who died in the past 12 months. Families who lost loved ones will also be recognized by the Senate.

The Michigan Senate held its first annual Memorial Day Service at the initiative of U.S. Congressman Mike Rogers, who was then a state senator.

“We welcome all who wish to attend the ceremony in the Capitol to honor the men and women who have died for our country,” Richardville said.

Those interested in attending the May 22 ceremony, scheduled for 10 a.m., should RSVP to Sen. Valde Garcia’s office toll free at 1-800-516-0026.
