BAY CITY – The Michigan Agri-Business Association (MABA) has awarded its ‘Legislator of the Year’ honor to Senator Mike Green, who represents Michigan’s 31st Senate District and serves as Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee. MABA presented the award Friday at a Bay City meeting focused on rail and water transportation for agriculture.
“Sen. Green has really set himself apart in Lansing as someone who’s willing to lead on tough issues,” said Jim Byrum, president of MABA. “There’s no shortage of challenges facing the state, and our farmers and agribusinesses need folks in Lansing who are willing to find common-sense solutions to complex problems.”
Byrum noted the importance agriculture plays in Green’s district, where production of corn, wheat, soybeans, dry beans, sugar beets and a range of other crops plays a critical role in economic growth. He said Green’s interest and engagement on agriculture issues, and his efforts to listen to the agriculture community, were key in the decision to honor him as Legislator of the Year.
“Sen. Green has truly stepped up for agriculture, he’s always willing to come to the table, and we’re glad to have him looking out for Michigan’s farmers and agribusinesses,” said Byrum. “We look forward to partnering with Sen. Green to continue growing agriculture in the Saginaw Bay area and Thumb into the future.”
