LANSING, Mich.Sen. Dale Zorn on Thursday announced that he will be hosting a Vietnam veteran lapel-pinning ceremony on Sept. 27 at the start of a veterans resource fair in Monroe.

“In commemoration of the 50-year anniversary of the Vietnam War, I have hosted several emotional events to pay tribute to the Vietnam War era veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice,” said Zorn, R-Ida. “Michigan’s Vietnam veterans served our country with honor, yet they were often forgotten when they returned home. This recognition has been well-earned and long overdue.”

The ceremony will take place at the Salvation Army, 815 E. 1st St., in Monroe on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m.

It will kick off the veterans resource fair being put on at the Salvation Army by the Monroe County Veteran Alliance. The resource fair will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include on-site health screenings and information on health care, disability and compensation benefits. The fair is free and open to all veterans and their immediate families.

“The response to the previous ceremonies has been overwhelming, and I am happy and proud to be hosting another ceremony to kick off a resource fair that is full of valuable information regarding veterans benefits earned serving America,” Zorn said. “I want to thank the Monroe County Veteran Alliance for hosting the event, and I invite all area veterans to join us for a wonderful ceremony and a great fair.”

A Vietnam War Commemorative Lapel Pin will be provided to any U.S. veteran who served on active duty at any time from Nov. 1, 1955 – May 15, 1975, regardless of location.

The ceremony is made possible by the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration. Information regarding the commemoration can be found at
