LANSING—State Sen. Mike Kowall, R-White Lake (standing, middle row, far left), welcomed the Walled Lake Western High School Jazz Band to the Capitol Thursday, where they performed on the Capitol steps.

Under the direction of Patrick Dudzinski, the band plays for several events in the Walled Lake community, including the Wixom Founders Day Festival, the Huron Valley Hospital Cancer Survivor Day and the Lakes Area Rotary Carnival.

The band has received numerous first division ratings at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association State Jazz Festival. Several members of the band have also been recognized by the Michigan Youth Arts Festival Jazz Committee for their outstanding solos.
