LANSING – Sen. Judy Emmons of Sheridan has been named to chair one major committee, serve as vice chair of another and as a member of four others.

Emmons was tapped by Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville to lead the Michigan Senate Committee on Families, Seniors and Human Services. She also was appointed vice chair of the Committee on Education, and will bring her extensive experience to four other committees: Agriculture, Economic Development, Health Policy, and Veterans, Military Affairs and Homeland Security.

“Senator Emmons’ background as a fifth generation farmer, long-time board of education member, and Michigan legislator make her well-qualified to serve the people of our state in many issue areas,” Richardville said. “I look forward to working with Judy as we begin the crucial work of getting our state economy strengthened and our jobs base restored.”

Emmons represents the 33rd Senate District which includes Clinton, Ionia, Isabella and Montcalm counties. She expressed an eagerness to begin her committee work.

“When I talk to the residents of the 33rd Senate District, they have one simple message for our state leaders,” Emmons said. “Without exception, my constituents want our economy fixed. Every element of our state’s economy impacts the lives of our families and communities, and the past eight years of economic struggle has taken a toll.

“That is why I will continue to be a familiar face across the district, listening to the people I represent, and will focus with my legislative colleagues on getting our economy restarted.”

Emmons said as a mother and grandmother, and active community member in her home community of Sheridan and the Central Montcalm school district, she has a good background and understanding for her new duties.

“My committee work covers every generation from school children to seniors and veterans; and it touches the broad base of our economy from agriculture to education to economic development,” the senator said. “It is a tremendous responsibility, and I am ready to begin the work that will help us restart Michigan’s economy.”
