LANSING, Mich.— State Sen. Mike Green, R-Mayville, issued the following statement today after Gov. Rick Snyder presented his Fiscal Year 2013 budget proposal to the Legislature:
“I am encouraged by Governor Snyder’s budget proposal. Michigan’s surplus reflects the hard work that has been done to turn our state around over the past year. After years of a declining economy and employment rates, things are recovering, and that is something we should be proud of.
“I am glad the governor’s budget continues our focus on making government more efficient and effective. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and as chairman of the appropriations subcommittees on Natural Resources, Environmental Quality, and Agriculture and Rural Development, I look forward to being deeply engaged in the budget debate.
“My focus will be on passing a balanced budget that addresses our pressing needs in key areas, such as education, public safety, and infrastructure, while holding the line on spending, continuing innovative reforms of government at all levels, and reducing the tax burden for all residents. I can’t wait to get started.”
