WHAT:   Human Trafficking 101 Forum to raise awareness about human trafficking in Michigan and discuss state, national and international efforts to crack down on the crime.

WHO:   Sen. Judy Emmons, chair of the Senate Families, Seniors and Human Services Committee; and officials of the Polaris Project, a national anti-human trafficking organization.

WHY:    The Polaris Project is a leading organization in the global fight against human trafficking and modern-day slavery. Human Trafficking is the second largest and fastest criminal industry in the world.

Michigan’s proximity to Canada increases the likelihood of trafficking in the state. It is estimated that every month in Michigan 117-150 girls under the age of 18 are sold in to the world of sex trafficking.
