LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Judy Emmons on Wednesday welcomed the Sacred Heart Academy Girls Cross Country Team to the Michigan Senate. The team was recognized by Emmons during session for winning the 2015 Division 4 Team state championship.
“This team’s remarkable success is a tremendous example of what can be accomplished by working together,” said Emmons, R-Sheridan. “These outstanding student-athletes exemplify teamwork. The girls set a Division 4 record with all five scoring runners finishing in under 20 minutes. Having five runners finish in the top 30 is so extraordinary that it’s the first time it’s ever happened in Division 4.
“On behalf of a proud community and state, it is my great pleasure to honor the achievements of these young women and the contributions of their coaches and parents.”
Sen. Emmons presented Head Coach Mark Zitzelsberger and the entire team with a special tribute signed by the senator, Gov. Rick Snyder and Speaker Kevin Cotter, R-Mt. Pleasant.
