LANSING, Mich.–State Senator Patrick Colbeck (R-Canton) today announced that he will be a featured speaker at the upcoming Connection Point Breakfast hosted by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and the Detroit Regional Chamber (DRC) for program managers, engineers and chief technologists from NASA.

Members of NASA’s Goddard Flight Center, Langley Research Center and Glenn Research Center will be exploring partnership opportunities with Michigan companies.

The event begins with Senator Colbeck’s speech at 8:00 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 6 at the Detroit Regional Chamber headquarters, located at One Woodward Avenue, Suite 1900 in Detroit.

“Michigan offers excellent partnership opportunities for NASA and other similar organizations,” said Colbeck. “We have done much in the Legislature this year to help attract businesses and jobs to our state and this is a great opportunity to show NASA what Michigan has to offer.

“Our state has some of the most cutting-edge technology firms in the world and is leading the nation in tech job growth, according to the latest 2010 TechAmerica report. In addition, just last month Newsweek ranked Michigan the No. 1 state in job growth.

“We need to build on this momentum and continue diversifying our economic base in order to create additional jobs for those still seeking employment.”

Senator Colbeck graduated with both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science
Degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan and is also a graduate of the Life Sciences Department at the International Space University in Strasbourg, France. He has worked on systems for the International Space Station and worked with children at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center’s Space Camp.
